Wynona Gray, 83, of Hughesville, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
She was born December 15, 1921, in Smithton, a daughter of Ramey and Nora Ray Simmons. On January 16, 1940, in Sedalia, she was married to Ernest Dale Gray, who died February 22, 2005.
Mrs. Gray was a member of First Baptist Church of Hughesville, where she sang in
the choir. She was a machine operator at Lamy’s Manufacturing for many years. She
enjoyed quilting, flowers and spending time with her grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
Surviving are a son, R.D. Gray, and his wife, Lois, of Hughesville; a daughter-in-law, Kay Gray, of Garland, Texas; a brother, L.D. Simmons, of Hardin; a sister, Hazel
Hall, of Sedalia; six grandchildren, Rodney Gray, Teresa Gray, Bobby Gray, Leslie Gray, Michael Gray and Steven Gray; fourteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandson. She was predeceased by two sons, Ernest Dale Gray and Gaylen Dean Gray; a brother, Raymond Simmons; and six sisters, Delia Elwell, Faye Tucker, Virgie Elwell, Dorothy Bechtel, Mildred Simmons and Opal Perriguey.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Tony Chapman and the Rev. Carl Gravatt officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Gray, Leslie Gray, Michael Gray, Steven Gray, Lloyd Shireman and Wayne McMullin. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob and Edith Knight, Ken and Sydney Nolan, Vi McMullin, Lisa Mueller, Pat Shireman, Janice Abney and Diane Ream.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Children’s Therapy Center.
